Omega Technology has more than 25 years of experience in the IT sector in Greece, having contacted research in several state of the art technologies in the framework of National and European R&D projects. The company's R&D department has from 2005 is involved in the development of large scale projects utilizing Grid technologies, assisted living solutions, virtual reality applications, natural language proccesing tools and augmented reality services. Since 2002, the company has also allocated a number of man months conducting research work in the digitization, anotation and content management for museum collections. As result, the company bid succesfully and implemented a number of projects for the digitization and preservation of content.

In the field of Assisted Living solutions the R&D department is currently is developing an own localization system with the co-finance of the General Secretariat for Research and Technology (GSRT) that supports through its programs, the research activities of SME’s in Greece. The company till today has several running installations on assisted living solutions using third party hardware and own software. Among them is the installation in Ergastiri, an institution ( that hosts 129 people with light mental disabilities (100 working and 29 permanent residents) that are 24X7 monitored for safety reasons. This platform allows the daily monitoring of inhabitants through a localization system, offering additional information for fall detection, alerts in cases of epilepsies, heart rate monitoring and other useful environmental information (temperature, humidity, motion detection, intrusion, smoke, dust, flood, etc) with the use of wireless sensors, like: Motion Detectors, Temperature & Humidity Sensor, Accelerometers (fall detection), Average heart rate and beat to beat sensors, Flood Sensors, Smoke Detectors, Wireless Alarm / Siren, Control Keypad/Multifunctional/Panic buttons, Intrusion Detection Sensor (to understand opening of windows, doors, refrigerators, etc).


Real Time Indoors Location

Omega Technology's Research team works with Texas Instruments development kits for Indoors Real Time Location Systems. Our goal here is to built a low power system able to track people moving on a grid at an indoor environment in real time. Users of the system will be wearing a mobile unit which will be integrated into a device and fitted on their wrist or torso. This way the sensory data can be sent without introducing any intervention to the user's daily functions. The team's approach is oriented towards a solution that uses radio frequencies (RF) instead of video streaming. This technology is thus a great alternative to camera-based tracking systems, as it provides a non-intrusive solution, which monitors people's location without actually monitoring them. 


chest strap for heart rate transmission

Omega Technology uses BM-CS5 chest strap that is using the latest ultra-low power BlueRobin™ data transmission technology to transmit the heart rate. Each chest strap has a unique ID assigned that can be used to identify the user and pair the chest strap to a receiver. Omega Technology has developed HTML5 web applications, using ASP.NET SignalR, that is a new library for ASP.NET developers that makes developing real-time web functionality easy. SignalR allows bi-directional communication between server and client. Chest strapsdata can now be pushed live to connected clients instantly as it becomes available. SignalR supports Web Sockets, and falls back to other compatible techniques for older browsers. 

ADAM Project

The project aimed at the development of multilingual computer systems that serve the public participating in international athletic events and other international meetings with the automatic answering of natural language questions based on the retrieval and extraction of information from databases and textbases. The system comprises a friendly interface that supports dialogs in natural language of Greek and English. The users envisaged are either Greeks or foreign visitors to Athens such as spectators, athletes and staff of international athletic and other events. The databases and textbases used by the system contain information useful to a user written either in Greek or English. In particular possible bases will be those containing information about the Games schedule and location, restaurants, hotels, transportation, emergency services and cultural events. The system developed with the present project is intended to exhibit significant flexibility so that it may easily be adapted to new applications of similar requirements to the one developed with the proposed project. 

An Elder's House Case

Omegatech’s platform “3DGuides” (in the framework of the ICT4Growth grants programme) is a platform for making multilingual 3D and augmented reality city guides without the need to have any knowledge about unity or Vuforia or any other SDK or Plugins. 3D guides is composed of a content management system, an authoring tool and the mobile players. A non-experience user can with drag and drop features to create in a few minutes a city guide with articles, routes, mini-games and AR content. 


Omega Technology is currently developing its own localization and fall detection system. The project is named THESI (Position). This research has been co-financed by Greece and the European Union (European Social Funds) through the Operational Program “'Human Resources Development” of the National Strategic Framework (NSRF) 2007-2013.

Virtual Reality

Omega Technology developed its own 3D software that can simulate the installation of a RTLS network in a virtual representation of the real world. The Software helps in the decision making for the setup of  a wireless sensor network. The 3D software utilizes a modified site survey algorithm, specifically developed to suit the needs of RTLS. Furthermore, it is capable of identifying the distance between two wireless nodes and the type and size of obstacles between them (walls, furniture, reflecting surfaces) calculating their effect on the formation of the network. 

Natural Language Processing

In the field of natural language processing the company has successfully developed question answering systems for two different fields of application; for Olympic Games in 2004 and for Greek literature. In both these cases a fitting thesaurus is used and integrated into an automatic question answering system with purpose to improve its capacity in answering efficiently a greater number of user’s questions. The developed QA machine for Olympic Games replies to users’ questions on places that athletics and other cultural events are taking place and provides access instructions; the QA system in the case of book literature answers users’ questions returning books with an event in their story that the user is seeking for (e.g the protagonist is betrayed by family members).
